Example Learning Module

Modules might be focused on Questions (How do I ….?)

  1. Learning module layout:
    1. Pretest of some type (where am I now?  Where are we now?)
  1. Contains some knowledge based questions (ex. True/False Oral language is an important aspect of teaching reading comprehension).
  2. Contains some perception type ratings (How confident do I feel doing ___________?) We can use these for research.
  1. Theory/the why?
  2. Research snapshot (summary of what research says in teacher friendly language).  These can be created by graduate students.
  3. What teachers say? Consider short video of teacher explaining the “problem” or issue and what needs to be fixed/done?
  4. Video case study to anchor the module.  Watching classroom instruction in action (good example of how to resolve/fix problem…but not perfect). Consider the language used in HLP videos at the beginning to remind viewers that it takes a brave teacher to showcase the messiness of teaching.
  5. Questions for a CoP or individual to reflect upon/work through to consider how this video would fit within their context, curriculum, school.
  6. Then a tiered set of tools to help with this work (i.e. graphic organizers, checklists, planning documents):
    1. Starting Small (teachers/schools needing to take changes slowly)
    2. Getting Going (teachers/schools ready to make pretty big shifts)
    3. Digging Deeper (teachers/schools already doing a lot but want to perfect/implement with higher fidelity)
  7. Posttest (where am I now?  Where are we now?)  Badge awarded upon completion with knowledge level above 80%.
